Breedingfor barley across the planet generates huge amounts of data that must beprocessed and analyzed. Currently, thegeneration, movement and analysis of this data involves manual processing andinteraction that is inefficient and time consuming. We wish to introduce pipelining to thisprocess to allow our plant breeders to focus on their main goal: data creationrather than management. We are seeking anintern that uses their excellent communication skills to translate plantbreeder data processing and analysis requests into reality using appropriatescript. We expect you to have thecapacity to engage directly with our team to find solution to their databasemanagement and data processing needs.


  • High level of communication skills

  • Proficient verbal and written English skills

  • Must be pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Database Management

  • Must be at least a junior, graduate students welcome to apply

  • Excellent “commenters” in script

  • Must excel in writing python or equivalent script

  • Able to write and run script in Windows local environment

  • Be familiar with “future proofing” script, i.e. must be very stable and isolated from library updates

  • Create script that is easily modifiable and with file paths that are updatable

  • Must be able to create script that runs from the command line or as executables

  • Experience operating in a heavily firewalled environment a plus

  • Previous experience pipelining multiple processes across data transformation, processing, reformatting and analysis

  • Ability to travel to worksite preferred, although most work can be conducted remotely

  • Experience testing new script and troubleshooting deliverables

  • A python code sample will be requested
